Cuyahoga County Probate

The probate court in Ohio has jurisdiction over all cases related to estate administration, guardianship, adoptions, and other probate litigation cases. According to the Ohio probate law, the probate process is conducted in the following steps:

  • The application is filled and filed to the estate administer of the local probate court
  • The probate court appoints an administrator (if there is no will) or an executor (if there is a will). In some cases, an appraiser is also appointed.
  • All assets get consolidated and identified, and the debts are paid off or noticed by the administrator or the executor.
  • The inventory is filed, and a final count is done to close the estate. All assets are distributed to the rightful beneficiaries, and the Ohio estate and federal estate tax returns are filed as needed.
